State High School Hocley Tournament Class AA.

Here are the match ups with the start times of each game.

Class AA starts on Thursday well class A will kick off the tournament on Wednesday.

Eden Prairie vs. Hill-Murray (11 a.m.)
Blaine vs. Rochester Century (1 p.m.)
Edina vs. Moorhead (6 p.m.)
Duluth East vs. Cretin-Derham Hall (8 p.m.)

The first game pits Eden Prairie against HIll-Murray. Well both of these schools are almost always in the tournament it seems an easy win for one of the two teams.

Eden Prairie got the top seed for the tournament from the coaches. It seems that Hill-Murray maybe down a little bit this year. I have only seen them play a couple of times on T.V. but they sure don’t look to be a strong.  EP beats H-M 4-1.

The second games pits #2 seeds blain against Rochester Century. This could be on of the best matches of the day.  I think Rochester is better then most are giving them credit for. I look for an upset in this one. I will take Rochester over Blaine 3-2.

The night caps are Edina vs Moorhead. This I think will be no contest. Well I wish Moorhead would win it looks like an easy win for the high power Edina team.  Edina  with a big win 6-0.

Then to end the night Duluth East will take on Cretin Derham hall. As much as I hate east I think they win in a tight match. 2-1.

More later.  I will continue with AA and go in to single A later today.

Bulldogs lay an egg.

The U.M.D. mens hockey team sure did lay a great big egg the last three weeks of the regular season.  They sure were no were near what I thought there could have done.

Against the worst two teams in the league they did horrible.  The final home series was a disaster. It was against one of the worst teams for a long time in Alaska Anchorage. I thought the bulldogs would win both game with no problem.  Yet they managed to suck and lost both games to one of the worst teams. Two weeks before that they were on the on the road against the other worst team in the WCHA. Michigan Tech there the bulldogs won and tied only getting three points.  Almost only getting two points as they were close to tying both nights.

In-between there was a series with the Minnesota gophers there I thought they could split the weekend. They tied the first game and got there butts kicked in the second game.  Only getting one point on the weekend.

Well I thought the dogs would do goo the last three weeks they did not.  I thought they had a shot at 10 out of 12 points. Instead they got 4 points. What a joke.

Time to start looking for a new head coach.

UMD and Gopher news and notes on tonights game.

Newest updates will be the last update.

The game is about 10 minutes away from go time.  I don’t have to tell people how big of a game this.  It is big for UMD much less the rivalry’s the two schools have.

Well I will blog I am not able to right now.  I will very shortly.

I am now back an will focus on this game as the Hunters Rail game is all but over at 5-1 as the hunters lead.

The first period is over now.  The Gopher lead shots on net 11-10 so it was very close there.  Also Penalty's UMD two for 4 minutes and the gophers one for 2 minutes.  The dogs did not have a power play. Well the gophers were 1-2.  Tied at 1 after one.

Just as the second starts the dogs score and take a 2-1 lead.  Nick Kemp with the goal just 12 seconds in to the period.

Gophers goalie is having a hard time handing the puck that is good for us.  Patterson is real struggling with the puck.

About 4 minutes in the the period both teams take a penalty.

The bulldogs have had control of the 2nd period. They have the one goal to show for it so far.  The lead at 2-1 and now there first power play of the game.

8:54 remaining in the 2nd it remains 2-1 UMD. The dogs had a lot of shots net but could not get one in.  The penalty came with about 11 minutes to play.

15:15 in to the period the gophers get a lucky goal to tie the game.  I should not say the goal was lucky but it should not have happend.  The Gophers should have had a penalty call on them in the there zone but the refs did not call it.  It allowed a break away for the Gophers and they put it in the net.  Now tied at 2.

The gophers get a checking from behind penalty. It is a 5 minute major with just 4:23 remaining in the 2nd.  The dogs hopefully can get a few goals on this pp.

The 2nd end tied at 2. The bulldogs don’t do much with a 5 minute pp. They do noting for 4:30 minutes of it.  They will have a short pp remaining in the 3rd.  I will have shot and such shortly.

UMD out shot the gophers 18-7 in the second.  The bulldogs 0-2 on power play they only had 3 shots on net. The gophers did not have any pp oppertunity in the 2nd.

Lets hope the bulldogs can play the 3rd like they did the 2nd. If they do they win.

23 seconds in to the 3rd periode and the 5 minute major to the gophers is now over and the dogs could do nothing with it.  That could be a boost to the gophers we will have to see.

There is 13:03 left in the 3rd it remains tied at 2.  The bulldogs are going on the pp. The gophers are not taking a slashing penalty. This is there 3rd power play they are currently 0-2.  The dogs are out playing the gophers but have nothing to show for it as of yet.  They are not out playing them as bad as they did in the 2nd however.

They are heading to over time tied at 2.  Well the dogs had control of much of the 3rd the gophers took control the last 2:30 of the game but could not score.  It scarys me however for the ot.

O.T. ends in a tie at 2.  The gophers had the better of the play in over time.  The bulldogs remain two points ahead of the gophers.  Tomorrow nights game starts at 6:05.

Follow High School Hockey here.

The newest update will be on the bottom.  It will be the last thing.

The game is just under way and there is no score.  Denfield and Proctor is a section game.

With 14 minutes left now there remains no score.  A Procter play just got hurt.  The hunters have a 5-0 lead on shots on net early.

There is about 10 minutes left in the first period. There is no score.  Proctor is going on the first power play of the game.  Jason Johnson for tripping in the denfield zone.  1:12 seconds later it is now 5-3 for proctor as the hunters take another penalty.

It is now back to 5-4 power play for the rails.

Proctor allows a short handed goal.  The hunters now lead 1-0 as Jason Johnson puts it in the net for the hunters.  As his penalty expired.  He makes an impact coming back on the ice. Again Den leads proctor now 1-0.  There is about six minutes left.

The hunters are going on there first power play of the game 10:56 in to the first.  Lets see how they do on the power play.  The rails are 0-2 on the power play.  In fact the only goal was a short handed goal given up by proctor.

I missed the goal but it is now 2-0 hunters and they are a badly out playing the proctor rails.  If the rest of this game goes like this it could be 10-0 game.

Well the first period is complete at the Heritage Center and the hunter lead the rails 2-0.  The hunter took 2 penalties for 4 minutes.  The rails took one for 2 minutes.

The Hunters were 0-1on the power play but they did have the one short handed goal.  The rails were 0-2 on the power play.  Shots on goal were not even close.  The hunters dominated the period 21-3 in favor of the hunters.

The second period in under now.  The Proctor Rails had the first good chance.  The hit the post.  It remains 2-0 hunters.  The rails have came out on fire this 2nd period. Shots on net in the 2nd so far 3-0 rails.

With 11 minutes left in the 2nd it is now 3-0 and this game is all but over.  Jason Johnson gets his second goal of the game at 5:42 in to the game.  After the goal proctor takes a penalty.

It’s now 4-0 hunters and I will take a break from updates for a few minutes here.  I will however have more soon.

Okay back but this will be my last post of this game except for finale score.  With 11:56 left in the game the hunters are up 5-1 and the fat lady is singing.

Hunters win 7-1

Great the Vikes might have a new QB.

The Minnesota Vikings traded for a quarterback yesterday.  I should say they came to agreement earlier in the week. He arrived in Minnesota yesterday.

Who did we get? Sage Rosenfels from the Huston Texans.  Yes the Texans.  This is the second year the vikes went after this guy.  This time they got him. They are excited and heck why not.

This is from the Duluth News Tribune. Rosenfels went 2-3 in five starts for the injured Matt Schaub last season. He threw for 1,431 yards with six touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 66.7 completion percentage.

We got some one that sucks as bad a Jackson.  He tosses just as many interceptions.  His completion % was better jackson but that is about it.  Not sure we should be so excited.

UMD Bulldogs to host finel home series.

UMD will host it’s last home series against Alaska Anchorage in early March.  The games will take place 3-6 and –3-7-09 that is a Friday and Saturday night.  In between there the bulldogs will have two series on the road.

Well the bulldogs are current ranked either 17’s or 12’s in the country depending on the poll you look at. The next two series before returning home will set the stage for the playoffs.  The bulldogs are looking for a home playoff game.

Well I believe the bulldogs next three match up favor them we will wait and see.  The bulldogs however play these three team in order.  Michigan Tech who has been one of Two WCHA kick around teams for a number of years the bulldogs should win both of those games.  They then Play the Minnesota Gophers. This will be a hard two game set I am hoping we can take one of two there. They then come home to take on Alaska-Anchorage the other kick around team of the WCHA.  The dogs should go 5 wins and one lose over the next six games.

If you can get to the DECC in March do it support this team.

CSS and UWS part two takes place Friday.

In the first meeting it was then # ranked UWS against CSS they were ranked #6 in the country.  This classic division three battle was set.  It did not wind up being much of a contest CSS won 7-1 I believe was the final.

This big win jumped CSS in the the second spot in the country that was previously UWS;s ranking and dropped them to #3.

The will do battle again this Friday well the first meeting of the year was at Mars Lakeview arena the next one will be across the bridge in Superior. It there were the yellow jackets will look for revenge over the saints.

Well the teams are set to battle it out again this time both team remain ranking in the top five in the country after last weeks matchups. It will be #2 UWS against #3 CSS the saints lost a spot as they lost one game last week were the Yellow Jackets did not. It should be an outstanding match up and it should not be a blow out either way like the first match was.

You can hear the action on www.WEBC560.com

My predication for the game CSS 4 UWS 2 It will be a 3-2 game near the end CSS gets an empty netter.

Just a side note that the NCHA has three of the top five ranked teams in the country as UW-Stout joins CSS and UWS in the rankings.  UWS #2 CSS #3 and Stout is #4.
